The laboratory is conceived as a large technical volume wrapped by a more continuous architectural envelope. A repetitive perforated façade extends across the building, giving different internal programs a shared external order while filtering the scale of the laboratory behind it. Strategic openings interrupt this surface to reveal occupied spaces and circulation, allowing the façade to shift between solidity and transparency rather than reading as a single monolithic mass
At ground level, the building becomes progressively more open toward the public realm. Transparent entrance volumes, a generous forecourt and a reflecting pool establish a transition between the institutional architecture and the surrounding landscape, while the existing arcade is incorporated into the larger approach sequence. The contrast between the patterned outer skin, transparent lower levels and heavier internal volumes allows a technically complex building to be perceived through a clearer hierarchy of scale, depth and enclosure.
