The project reconsiders the substation as more than a purely infrastructural object, introducing a secondary architectural envelope around the existing volume. A continuous system of timber screens establishes a new outer boundary, softening the scale of the building while maintaining the permeability required between the structure and its surroundings. The screen becomes both façade and threshold, transforming a technical enclosure into a more deliberate presence within the public landscape.
The density and rhythm of the timber elements respond differently to light, view and movement throughout the building. During the day, the layered façade filters sunlight and creates shifting patterns of shadow along the perimeter; at night, illumination from within reveals the depth between the original structure and its outer skin. Landscape and circulation occupy this intermediate zone, allowing infrastructure, architecture and public space to overlap rather than remain strictly separated.
